Chemical Product Design

Firstly, we started our first ICPD lesson with MODULE OVERVIEW.πŸ”„πŸ”„

πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰CP5065 Introduction to Chemical Product Design (ICPD)πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

🚩 Why do we need to study this module?

To develop its learner with an aptitude for chemical product design.

As usual, the tradition of the SP DCHE teaching technique, the cdio concept, was implemented in the module teaching.

🚩 Do you still remember what cdio stands for?

Let us help you to do some recap…

★ An innovative educational framework for producing the next generation of enginers by practising the concept of

C 🠊 Conceive

D 🠊 Design

I 🠊 Implement

O 🠊 Operate

And not forgetting, the teaching plan, as well as the assessments of this module, was introduced to us. 😭😭😭

-------------------------🧍🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️🧍 TEAM FORMATION 🧍🧍‍♀️🧍‍♂️🧍 -----------------------------------

ICPD actually was a team-based module. As “many hands make light work”, we can't design and invent a product by ourselves; our team members are there to help us. ❤️ 🧑 πŸ’› πŸ’š

According to Bruce Tuckman's, there are 5 stages of the team formation model for a team to grow. πŸ“ˆ

πŸ– STAGES OF TEAM FORMATION MODEL

  1. Forming

  • Most group members are overly polite and are still extremely excited about what their future may hold.

  • They'll be looking to the team leader for direction.

  1. Storming

  • People start to push against the established boundaries.

  • They may challenge team leader authority or management style, or even the team's mission.

  1. Norming

  • People start to resolve their differences, appreciate one another's strengths, and respect the authority as a leader.

  • They'll share a stronger commitment to the team's goals, and they should make good progress toward it.

  1. Performing

  • With hard work and structured processes, the team is likely to achieve its goals efficiently.

  1. Adjourning

  • The end of the assessment !!!

To better understand this 5 stages team formation model, you can access the link below to watch the video. Don't forget to give a thumbs up πŸ‘ for the video !!

To achieve better teamwork, our group decided to assign each of eb=veryone with their roles and responsibility.

Member

Role

Description of Role

🧍 Zulhilmi

Leader

  • Manage and assign different tasks to each member organise the blog if needed.

  • Organise the blog.

🧍‍♂️ Esen

Scribe

  • Ensure the team does regular updates on blogs. weekly updates

  • Keep track of activities carried out during the week

🧍‍♀️ Wan SIn

Photographer

  • Takes photos for each and every activity the team undergoes to allow us to keep track of our status.

  • Work with Scribe to update the blog for each activity.

🧍 Ong Sheng

Timekeeper

  • Ensures that every task meets the dateline.

  • Remind teammates to complete work before the dateline.

---------------------------------- πŸ“ DOCUMENTATION πŸ“------------------------------------

🚩 Why do we need to learn and practice documentation?

Keep track of the work progression

Avoid confusion and misunderstanding during the discussion

Act as a reminder

★ Class note

🚩What is blogging?
An online dairy

By posting our documentation on the blog page, we can share our note with our peers, and this can help achieve a WIN-WIN situation, as " WHEN WE SHARE, EVERYBODY WIN." πŸ€™πŸ€™πŸ€™

Here stat our journey on blogging ~~~~

------------------------------------- 1️⃣ LESSON: CHEMICAL PRODUCT ---------------------------------

🚩 Do you know what chemical products and chemical product designs are?

★ Chemical product - A product that is designed using chemical engineering principles

★ Chemical product designs - The process of designing the chemical product

🚩 Chemical Engineering Principles

★ Fluid flow
- involves the motion of a fluid subjected to unbalanced forces
★ Heat transfer
- the flow of thermal energy due to temperature differences and the subsequent temperature distribution and changes
★ Mass transfer
- the net movement of mass from one location to another
★ Mechanical process
- the transformation of material systems by predominantly mechanical operations
★ Reaction
- a chemical process in which substances act mutually on each other and are changed into different substances, or one substance changes into other substances
★ Thermodynamics
- the transfer of energy from one place to another and from one form to another
★ Others
- Electrolysis, Fermentation, lyophilisation, Crystallisation

🚩 Category of Chemical Products

★ Commodities

★ Chemical devices

★ Molecular products

★ MIcro-structured products

🚩Chemical Devices

★ Miniature processes which accomplish a particular chemical transformation

★ Provides convenience.

-------------------------------------✍️Today’s HOMEWORK ✍️---------------------------------

  • Describe how chemical engineering principles have been applied in the design and/ or manufacture of the identified chemical product

Clothing

The material wool is a good insulator of heat. Hence it traps air inside the cloth, which helps stabilize the body temperature since air conducts heat. Every movement you make traps heat inside; hence it keeps the person warm.

Manufacturing of clothing involves the chemical principles too for e.g.heat transfer.

---------------------------------πŸ’¬Group ReflectionπŸ’¬-------------------------------------

In the first lesson, we learned about the importance and the need for documentation to take note of the learning progression of our chemical devices. By documenting the progress, we can revise and keep on track of our progression and do self-reflection weekly to make sure that we can improve ourselves throughout the lesson. By doing so, we are also can avoid misconceptions or understanding among the members. In addition, by uploading our documentation online, we can exchange our knowledge and creativity with our peers, as "when we share, everybody wins".
