During Experiment

We had to create our own joinery using cardboard. We had to cut the large cardboard down into small sizes to make the different types of joinery.

Then we had to assemble the different joinery onto a display board.

Outcome

Individual Activity: Unicorn

Zulhilmi:

This unicorn was created by me and I find it very interesting when forming the unicorn as it is not very challenging but quite tedious due to connecting the parts together.

Each of us were assigned to think of different ways on how to make the unicorn wings flap. I decided to connect both of the wings together with a rubber band and use a chopstick to make the wings flap.

Wan Sin:

I helped my unicorn to get a new outfit by getting the idea from the movie “Cruella” .And I decided to name it as “Umbrella” . Because I accidentally threw its corn, so I made another for it using a paper sticker.

In order to let its wing flap, i use a rubber band and a plastic cardboard to make it fly ~~~~

the mechanism that I thought of is to install a motor in between the two wing flaps.

Esen:

Firstly, I assembled all the parts of the unicorn identifying the body, head , wings , tail and horn. That step was fairly simple.

Secondly, I followed the video that Dr Noel that told us to followed.

I fixed up the head of the unicorn.

Next, i fixed up the body

And connected the head to it.

Finally, I fixed up the wings and attached them to the body. This is the final product.

In order to get the wings to flap.

Materials:  cotton wool and Plastic coated wire

I used the wire to tie the two wings together that allowed the wings  to flap when you tug on the wire. However, it was not very comfortable to hold the wire, so I decided to put cotton wool, a softer material in order to make it more. comfortable for the user to tug on it.

The final product. Watch the wings flap!

Second method to make the wings move is using a motorized piston to move the wings.

Ong Sheng:
Firstly, I had to remove all the parts on the cardboard before putting together the Unicorn

Secondly, I started to put the individual pieces together first.

Then, I assembled the pieces together to form a unicorn.
In order to get the wings to flap, I tied the inner side of the wings together with rubber bands. Due to the elasticity of rubber bands, pulling or pushing onto the wings will cause the band to stretch, upon release, the band will compress and bring the wings back to their original positions.
